Better food, better surroundings, and less crowded than Aspire Lounge…which was FULL with a line of 20 people waiting at 7am. No thank you. The PGA Tour Grill at SAN came to our emotional rescue with the free dining benefit of the Chase Priority Pass. Not shown: nice 3 egg omelet with fancy sauces, hash browns and toast. And a full size table! – no balancing your cardboard plate between your lap and the tiny between-chair micro-table. Oh, we will definitely be back.

Lounges are the holy grail of travel, even more now in this era of revenge travel. We haven’t yet had to wait in line to get in a lounge, but that may have more to do with needing to flying to a college town than going somewhere truly exotic.
We love American’s Admiral Lounge in Chicago for its gargantuan size and its proximity to Rick Bayless’ Frontera Grill In Hall F. This time I was able to tear myself away from the Tortas to try the Poblano chowder (adding chicken) and the loaded Guacamole. Highly, highly recommended. There is a reason Rick has been going strong since the 80s…

And the JAL Sakura Lounge/Admirals Club in Honolulu is smaller but restful, and the kara’age chicken, curry, and spicy chicken ramen are excellent. But be Japanese here – not boisterous, loud, or unobservant of people’s space.

And if you run into Martha in the Detroit Delta Sky Club, who can’t stop talking about the food in Singapore, and lives in Berlin even though she hates it there, and gives out business cards with a defunct email and telephone number, say hi to her for us.
