Been reading more international journalism lately and have been enjoying the BBC, if not only for the fact that the British have cornered the market on what it means to be adult. Reserved, responsible, long suffering. And in that vein I find British TV to be quite intelligent.
I’ve reproduced their list below which is about half British shows. Left a few comments about the ones I’ve seen. Leaving a satisfyingly long list to start watching.
Industry
A Man on the Inside
Black Doves
Colin From Accounts
Say Nothing
Slow Horses – altho I can’t bear to see Gary Oldman playing such a pudgy ugly character.
Rivals
Day of the Jackal
The Diplomat – tight as a drum and highly plausible; even my comedy loving DH likes this show. More accessible and less depraved than House of Cards. But…is that a good thing?
Capote vs the Swans
True detective: Night Country – a must for Jody Foster and/or sci Fi fans. No black and white contrasts here. Has a lot to say about indigenous people, choices that we make, and burdens that we bear.
Shogun – quite simply a work of art and a peek into the Japanese psyche.
Baby Reindeer
Fallout
Ripley
One Day
Monsieur spade
Mr Bates vs the post office
The Regime
3 body problem – unique plot and above average sci fi.
